Social Media Branding Mistakes to Avoid in 2020

The New Year, 2020, is here. Along with other resolutions and goals you would have set for your business, you need to list ‘We will not make social media branding mistakes’. While social media has become the foremost platform for businesses to further their branding, all it takes is one post to bring down an entire campaign. The work you have put into creating profiles on Facebook, Twitter and the likes, all of it could amount to little when your posts are timed poorly or are controversial.

These are just a couple of the social media branding mistakes businesses are susceptible to. Let’s look at a few more and how you can avoid them:

Lack of Direction

While the number-one rule of bolstering of social media branding is to keep posting content, it doesn’t mean you can share or post just about anything. You have to make sure the content you are posting or sharing has a central theme. Many businesses are guilty of lacking direction in terms of the content they have shared on Facebook and Twitter. The simplest way to do so is using hashtags. They are the ‘in’ thing as far as relevance is concerned.

Infrequent Updates

As mentioned above, you have to be consistent when it comes to updates on your social media pages. Again, this doesn’t mean you post just for the sake of posting. The content you share has to offer value or be interesting enough to capture audience attention. Customers who buy into your brand need to be kept in the loop. Hence, if you haven’t done so, set up a posting schedule for each of your social media profiles. Oh, and one Tweet a day is not enough!

Not Addressing Your Target Audience

There is no way you can miss this. Set up an audience profile, the person you feel is most likely to buy from you. Speak directly to him/her/them. Otherwise, you are preaching to the choir. This is why it is important to be consistent with your ‘voice’ when you share content posted by someone else or post your own.

Insensitivity (Or Just Poor Timing)

Humor is integral to every social media branding campaign but you have to make sure you don’t come off as insensitive. So, time it right and don’t come off as rude or unpleasant.

These are some of the social media branding mistakes you have to avoid in 2020. Keep in mind even a slight slip-up can become a major source of embarrassment for your brand and lead to it losing face, and in the process, customers.
