How do i know what sizes to order?

This depends on your target audience and where your ads will be displayed. According to Google, the most effective banner sizes are:
  • 336 x 280 large rectangle
  • 300 x 250 medium rectangle
  • 728 x 90 leaderboard
  • 300 x 600 half page
Since traffic is all going to mobile devices now, the clear winner is the 300x250. It's a must for most campaigns. You can always start small and then expand the number of sizes you are running once you have an idea of how they are performing.

How do I know what type of banner to choose?

There is no hard and fast rule here. It depends on your audience and understanding how they will react to the different types of ads. It’s also important to see what sites these ads will be running on to understand what ad type works best. An animated GIF or HTML5 banner tends to do a better job if you need to convey a bunch of information to get your message across. You can always start with a static ad campaign and then upgrade from there once you have some performance data.
