Does Your Email Marketing Campaign Have a Call to Action?

June 18, 2010 2 min read

An email marketing campaign is a marketing method in which you design a very targeted email marketing message for a specific audience. The goal of email marketing design is to attract potential new customers, build trust and ultimately convert your audience into paying customers. One key element to any email marketing campaign is a clear and concise call to action.

Call to Action

A call to action is when you prompt your reader to take an action desired by you. This could be anything from clicking on your link, to making a phone call, to making an actual purchase. The point is that it makes a specific request.

Tips for an Effective Call to Action

An effective call to action can boost your company’s brand and sales. To have an effective call to action in your email marketing campaign make sure you are doing the following:

  • Use only one call to action per email marketing campaign.
  • Be clear, concise and direct – there should be no doubt what you want readers to do.
  • Make your call to action stand out in an email newsletter design. For example, if you want readers to click through to a landing page, put the link in a bold or larger font.
  • Sweeten the deal. In other words add in a bonus like a free coaching session for the first 25 people to make a purchase.
  • Give a deadline. This adds some urgency to your call to action and helps prompt readers to react now rather than later.
  • Make it easy on your readers. For example if your call to action is to click through to your landing page then by all means, make sure the link works and make sure that once they click through the landing page design very clearly gives them what the email marketing campaign has promised them.
