5 Essential Landing Page Design Tips

A landing page is the page on your website where potential customers will land on once they click through from a blog, another web page on your website, an email newsletter, an advertising banner or any other ad. Landing pages are unique in that you control where people are coming from, so you can control what they see first of your website. An effective landing page will prompt users to complete your desired action. Here are some tips to keep in mind when creating your landing page design.

1) Keep your promise. Readers and potential customers will only get frustrated and lose interest if they click through to your landing page and then they can’t find what they are looking for.

2) Make it obvious. Your landing page should make it very clear that this is where readers should be. It should start with a straightforward headline relating to where they came from, and it should make use of the same fonts and graphics as where the reader is coming from.

3) Avoid distractions. Too many links and graphics in the landing page design will cause your readers to become distracted and lose interest in what they came to your page for. Stick to the reason you directed them to this specific landing page, don’t be afraid to use white space and use graphic elements to direct their eyes to your point.

4) Be persuasive and speak on the reader’s level. When your reader lands on your landing page, you will only have a short time to build their trust and persuade them to take an action desired by you. The best way to do this is to be direct and clear in your wording, and speak in terms that your audience will understand.

5) Don’t make readers wait. Be respectful of your readers’ time and remember that not everyone has top internet speed. Make sure that your landing page downloads fast no matter the internet speed of the reader. Also, put your most important information at the top of your landing page so that readers won’t have to scroll to the bottom to get to your point.
